Passion and Song

Humans are passionate creatures. We express our passions in song. Looking back through recent history we will find songs about the people we love or desire. We have songs about dancing, cars and surfing. There are songs about war and peace. There are songs about victory, disappointments, drugs, alcohol and food. All are topics of extreme passion among people.

This leads me to wonder why there are only a handful of songs that even mention computers or the Internet. I mean computers are our life. People use computers and the Internet to work, communicate, date, and to look at porno. This is revolutionary. If it only provided oxygen, food and transportation we could get rid of everything else around us.

Why is it that the only homage can be found on old albums by Kraftwerk?

I don't know about other types of music ... but I guess one could write a "country" song about being dumped via text messaging. Or emailing pictures to momma in prison. LOL!

I think computers are one of the instruments that suck passion out of our lives. I just did an entry on my AOL journal about how I've lost my sense of wonder... which is, I think, another expression for passion.

What a perfect coincidence.
Computers stir about as much feeling, romance, and emotion as Kraftwerk did. NOT!
Of course, maybe that is because they were a computer.
Don't forget Silver Convention.

I may be addicted to my computer and the Internet, but I can't say they move or touch my soul.
Bad enough I spend so much time on the computer - I don't want to sing about it, too!

I bet it computers were suddenly taken away people would start howling at the moon and writing all sorts of computer songs.
