Obligation for Another Year
This morning I mailed off my hive registration to the Oregon Department of Agriculture and I sent in my annual dues to the Beekeeping Association. I'm scheduled to be an instructor at a beekeeping workshop next weekend. So, I guess I'll be keeping bees for another year.
You are supposed to register, but few do. The state doesn't do anything if you do or do not register your colonies; no inspections. I like to for two reasons because I have farm insurance and the other is that I am registered as an agricultural entity so if I ever want to build something on my property that is agricultural in nature the County will not be able to deny me a permit. Some counties are very restrictive on people building out buildings, and judging on how non progressive out progressive county commissioners are here I'm sure there will be restrictions here in the future.

You have to register your hives? Do they get inspected or something?
Do you have to tattoo a registration number on all of your bees or do you just use tiny clip on tags like they do for bears?
