There's Nothing Like It

I’ve been thinking about experiences that are classic. It’s the one and only thing that is like it. Nothing compares. Here is my list:

There is nothing like the first cup of coffee. The second cup is never as good.
There is nothing like the return of a vivid memory. There is nothing like waking up well rested from a nap. There is nothing like a good piss. There is nothing like a close call. There is nothing like the death of someone you love. There’s nothing like the smell of a bakery. There is nothing like a tropical shower. There is nothing like the taste of blood. There is nothing like the feeling of falling. There is nothing like feeling young again even if only for a moment. There is nothing like the smell and the look of a freshly mowed lawn on a warm day. There is nothing like the feeling you get when you feel like you’ve made a connection. There is nothing like the feeling of knowing that you are responsible for a major screw-up.

(The taste of blood??)

There is nothing like hearing the words, "I love you." (Unless coming from a stalker).
There is nothing like sharing a good belly laugh with a friend. (Bonus - it burns calories.)

No I'm not a vampire, but when you slice a finger you often send it to your mouth to prevent bleeding on everything. The taste is unique.
Thanks for adding to the list, Beth.

Nothing like early summer enjoying Rhone wine with the Rhone river stretched out before you from the camping municipale in Tournon and hearing the 'fromage' man on his moped peddling chevre throughout the campground right on the heels of the boulangerie man who just came through with warm baguettes.

bliss. Probably never to be repeated so I hold on....

Nothing about the "First kiss"?

And adding on to a "good piss", there is nothing like letting it go after an hour of looping. (of course that was back in my younger days...)

So true...may I add a few of my own?

~sun dried laundry
~smell of wood burning
~finding a forgotten $10 in your pocket
~sunshine

You know what gets me about a list like this is that it sounds like the wonderment that young children have everyday and that adults need to remind themselves of.

....nothing like the love and companionship of a child....same could be said for our 4 legged friends too....:) Nothing like the smell of dew on the grass after an early frost....nothing like the smell of spring in the air....can hardly wait for that one!!

I'm with Beth on the belly laugh though I really prefer the uncontrolable, so hard that your side is splitting, you can't take a breath and you think that you will die laughing.

And how about the smell of apple blossoms or hot fresh cinnamon buns or the scent of a honeybee colony or puppy breath or the smell of your own farts.

There's nothing like drifting easily off to sleep in a warm bed while the rain drums outside and everyone in your family has gone to bed happy under one roof.

There's nothing like the few minutes after everyone has gone and it's just you and your new baby together for the first time.

There's nothing like my late Granny's ravioli and sauce, with fresh rolls from Federico's on Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.

There is nothing like the punch in the chest and leap of a 100hp motorcycle when you give the throttle the slightest twist.
And better even yet; that confident and familiar feel of such a machine over 25 years of use.
Throttle up!

You folks are such romantics, even Gearhead, and I'd love to get my hands on his vintage tractor.

There's nothing like the smell in the air right before it rains. There's nothing like a wicked hang-over.
There's nothing like the smell of of leather jacket.
