Update to today's post

Update. I fortified everything last night and locked the remaining chickens in the hen house, and something still got in and killed five more. I have one chick left and I will be looking for a home for her today. I am officially out of the egg business.

i know the feeling all too well. last year, something got in on several occasions and wiped out my quail and severely depleted my pigeons. i ended up resorting to rat poison under the pen (they were tunneling). that fixed the problem for now.

wow, that's pretty devastating. To lose animals in your care is always hard...

g, I'm going to use 1/4 inch hardware cloth on all vents and lock them in the coop at night. I ordered new chicks.

Teri, that is true. Just when you think you've got things under control nature shows you who is really in control.
