Where Have All the Bloggers Gone...

That's what I ask myself when I see all the un-updated links on my Bloglines reader. Out of the 81 blogs I used to follow, 9 are dead, about sixty of them have not posted in six months. There are only about four of them that post daily. Former daily posters now post once a week or month.

There was a lot of good writing out there, The two Carries, Dried Salmon, Beth, Auntie, Dalia, Syd, Trop, Melanie, BPaul, Matt...the list goes on and on. Their writing was something to look forward to every day. They shared their joys and their heart breaks. We were fans of one another.

Most of these people are now on Facebook. It takes a lot less energy to toss out a phrase and call it good, but really people, don't you miss the thrill of the post? Don't you miss the replies of your readers? Have you really run out of things to write or are you just tired of sharing.

I do want to thank the daily bloggers, Darev, Jaggy and Donna (with multiple daily posts. Other new daily posters are Astoria Daily Photos and the Knocked Up Lesbian. Thanks for playing every day.

when it started to feel like a chore to post every day, then just every few days, that's when I was done. It was very thrilling for a couple of years though, but that must have been all I had in me.

Great times though because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten to meet you and some other great people

I was thinking about posting about the very same thing the other night. Wondering where everybody went. Of course, it was me too for a couple of weeks, there. I need to make me a backlog of off day posts without the vomit pictures.

Thanks for the shout-out, Guy. I guess I just burned out on blogging. I still read blogs, and I miss some of my favorite bloggers who no longer blog. I've made the transition to micro-blogging through Twitter and Facebook.

Truth be told, there's not much to blog about. The stuff going on with me right now would never make it to my blog anyway.

I write the best blogs in the car, going down the highway. Then the stupid laws changed and no texting while you drive. SIGH! Now I have to remember what it was that made me laugh halfway home. By the time I get here all that's left is a one liner!

Facebook, is, very sadly, the epitome of the American culture of getting what we want NOW. I want my thought OUT THERE NOW and I only want my friends to see it so no one else can challenge it. Awwww, ain't that a cute thought, picture, idea, recipe, group, hug, smack, poke, prod .... And how come no ones sending me the bricks for my chicken coop?

I have a few good discussions on FB but only because my "friends" are a divers group. I am very careful NOT to post when JB posts on LHL's posts. Someone may have to chose which of us to "unfriend"! Horror of horrors!

The Blog Needs To Make A Come Back. Maybe someone will run a contest with a prize worth winning to get interest generated again?

Wow, could have written this over on my blog and been updated for the month!

Auntie and now since you are a professional is more the reason to tone it down.

Darev, post it and carry the torch.

Trop, I'm sure your life is just as interesting as it was back in the day, but I do recall your blog bit you in the ass on occasion with your employer and that takes the steam out of anyone.

CB, Too funny. You should know that LHL collects Facebook friends like old ladies collect condiment packets. She will never give them up. By thew way, nice post (finally) on the subject of the lost bloggers. I think I know who you are talking about and she is still out there.

I, too, appreciate the shout out.

I admit to being on FB, but that's truly for the family. To get the kiddo pictures and videos out to family, most of all. And to hear how my far flung cousins and such are doing.

I have taken on a curriculum editing/writing/publishing project that will probably last over two years (at this rate). I found that with the lack of time, I was writing shorter and shorter blog posts. I felt like the blog was getting trite. "Here's a link -- it's awesome, you'll like it" kind of shit.

From the feedback I got (still get), people enjoyed the choices, but it wasn't writing and I felt that.

Between the kiddo (19 mos. now, btw) and this other writing project, I just had to let something go.

I do miss blogging, and I miss the community it created. I enjoyed being fans of other bloggers and checking somewhere around 14 blogs a day. Even if I didn't read every post I felt very much part of a community.

I'm sorry I'm not around more often, I switched browsers (to Chrome) and it just doesn't have as easy an interface with which to sub scribe to dozens of blogs as I used to do. You are on the short list, but I still don't check it as often as I'd like.

Glad I checked today tho.

I'm around, and if I start up another internet presence you will absolutely be notified.

Your fan,

Bpaul

BPaul, good to know you are still out there. It seems our friend Matt is showing signs of coming around again as well. Becoming a father really must wipe one out.

Anon, thanks.

funny, thought I commented on this yesterday... I have started a new blog - just not sure if i can keep up the daily/regular ramblings. my other blogs were yammerings about my relationships and whinging about work... and I'd like to be a little more interesting than that! :-)
