Loose Face Book Virtues

Yeah, I’m a nosy bastard. I cruise Face Book to see who I know. I’m not a friend collector. I’ve only extended myself to two or three people and I’ve even turned down a few requests because I wasn’t all that fond of some of the people on their friends list. Yeah, I’m a douche that way.

I had some free time this morning so I tallied up the friends list of those that are readers of this blog just to see who is out of control on Face Book. I think I may need to open a treatment center for some of you folks.

The following have this many friends:

15 Me (of which I have personally met and hung out with 7)
25 Jenn
27 Moose
36 Mel in Or
49 Joni
65 CB
77 Jeff
93 Jaggy
103 Mo3
123 Auntie
132 Donna
148 Ann
150 g
151 Hahn at Home
294 Dalia

but then i grew up AND BESIDES... it's like having another job. and all those "winks" people leave you and polls and crap?

there needs to a 12 step program. kinda creepy.

hope it's ok that i lurked on over.

Tango, perhaps a 12 kicks in the ass program.

Mouthy, I'm digging you already, and you get extra points for using the word "Douche." Please come back any time.

I am only on Facebook because Auntie made me drink the kool aid. It has been useful. I keep tabs on hubby's granddaughters and report to their parents.

I too am a nosy bitch.

Nosy Bitches Unite!

Actually, of my 123, I have met and know personally all but 4. Those 4 came from blogs and mutual friends.

And yeah, I am leaving for my honeymoon in about an hour, yet I found time to comment on your blog, darlin.

I once had a facebook page, just so I could get in and read a post that other people were talking about. I imagine that it may or may not still be there, but I haven't checked in quite some time. I hear the others at work talking about theirs and all the apps they have downloaded... I agree with Mouthy... too much like a second job. Too much to keep track of besides real life. I guess I'm just a Luddite at heart, despite my heavy internet addiction.

I'm still resisting facebook. Though, I know I'll probably give in, eventually.

Most of my "friends", probably 3/4 of them, are blogging pals from the old AOL journal days; we were a tight-knit group over there. Of the people I really know, there are several relatives, some former co-workers, and even some of my daughter's old schoolmates.

It really does keep me in touch with people I normally wouldn't hear from. I wish they'd do away entirely with the stupid quizzes.

A few of my oldest grandsons buddies are on my friends list. Interesting to see them talk about how drunk they're going to get tonight or how hard they're going to party on the weekend. Ah, youth.

Facebook is addictive and one of the best ways to procrastinate when you should be doing homework.

I myself am guilty of Facestalking. I love looking up the profiles of people I used to know.

Jenn, Following Auntie's example isn't always a good idea.

Auntie, checkin in from her honeymoon. Now that's a dedicated reader.

Darev, your writing says no but I think your heart says you want to.

g, justify it all you want, you are a face book whore.

Syd, This fad will be over soon. And I still can't believe you went to Twitter.

Donna, You are so internet I'm surprised you aren't making a living from it.

Brightened Boy, Welcome to rust. Now you need to take classes that don't have homework then you can dump Facebook.

I'm on Facebook mostly to promote our every second Saturday gay cafe. It's really helped us network through the community.

So how many friends do you have, Trop?

I'll bite. But first I'll say that I resisted FB for a long time. Then I joined but was not an active user of FB. Then I thought I've give it the old college try because I just didn't understand why everyone around me was addicted to it. Now I'm moderately hooked.

I have 98 friends. I'd say about a 10 are people I socialize with regularly, probably another 15 are people who I know but don't see that often, 15 or so are family members, and the rest are people who I knew in HS or college who tracked me down.

So, I caved to FB. I check it close to daily, but I prefer blogging. I will not, however, give into twitter.
