Pants on Fire

There are two types of liars. The type we all dislike are those that lie to take advantage of someone or to make money or a grab for power.

The other type of liar is one that I like. These are people that exaggerate to make a story better. These are stories that are usually based in truth but get embellished to the point of unlikelihood. It's hard to call them their story because they are often somewhat plausible and if not they are at least entertaining.

I've known a few master liars and I've never minded hearing their yarns. They were harmless. Sometimes their stories even got better with time and more embellishment.

To you liars out there, keep up the fine work.

Oh, you'd love Cliff's sister's husband then. He tells about exploits you know can't possibly be true (sometimes involving him, sometimes his superman dad) that are quite entertaining.

We have a few guys at work like that. They are entertaining, but hearing the same story over and over again, even with the new embellishments gets kind of old after awhile.

I have a very good friend who falls into the great storyteller category. People always ask me if such and so really happened and the truth is, yes it did happen. However if I had told the same story it wouldn't have been quite so extraordinary (strange I've used that word twice in the last hour)

Now what are your opinions of people who like to fudge... cheat... at board games and cards when no money is at stake? Worse yet, people who cheat at games and LOSE?

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Donna, think of him as an artist in the theater of the mind.

Darev, you should keep track of the evolution of these stories. It would be a good writing project.

QQ, it's bad if they are obvious, but sometimes it's a skill like gamblers who count cards and are able to get the advantage in a game because of an incredible memory.

g, reading the Astorian again?

Just the obits.
Because of their track record, I checked to make sure the people featured were really dead.
