Guns

I run a \Facebook page for an agricultural organization of which I am a member.  People in agriculture are often the most conservative delusional paranoid people I have ever dealt with. During the election they posted a bunch of racist anti Obama stuff, but now their team lost they are focusing on guns and the 2nd Amendment and I don't believe they truly grasp what they are implying.

Their main thing they state is that we are allowed by the constitution to defend our country against a tyrannical government.  The 2nd amendment actually only states: Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

So lets say for a minute that their interpretation is correct.  What they fail to realize is that in their opinion we already have a tyrannical government and they aren't doing anything about it other than complaining on Facebook about it.  So why don't these pussies with all the guns rise up and end the tyranny?  Maybe in the back of their mind they realize that the government has more man-power and weaponry that they can possibly imagine as proven to their brothers in arms; Tim McVeigh, David Koresh, and the Weaver family at Ruby Ridge.

Their delusional diatribe states that to fix the gun problem there needs to be more guns, which makes as much sense as infecting everyone with AIDS to solve the AIDS problem, or require everyone to drive drunk to stop drunk driving.

The government logistically can not round up all the guns, but if they wanted to solve the gun problem they can make it illegal to manufacture or import any weapons in the United States.  This will stem the flow and eventually all the guns that can be stolen and used in a crime will be confiscated.

Then to protect the peoples right as explained in the 2nd amendment the only fire arms that should legally be manufactured and purchased in this country will have the exact form and function of any fire arm that was produced in 1791 when the constitution was adopted.  That should be more than enough for hunting and for the occasional murder, but not fast enough to reload to shoot up a school, a church or a shopping mall.

I would comment but this rant is so far off I don't know where to start. Your analogies aren't good (i.e.) comparing legal gun owners to having aids and drunks doesn't work).

I agree that rising against a tyrannical govt (ours today) would result in swift death. We the sheeple can't match that fire power.

The 2nd amendment clearly provides for we the sheeple to possess guns and does not differentiate.

While I completely disagree with your conclusions; here are some things that I find puzzling:
Guns are a tool. Most of my friends hunt every year with a tool in hand. I am not a hunter, but I do go through about 150 bullets every year against grey-diggers, gophers and rats on my property. I have zero tolerance for those three pests.
But like you Guy, I occasionally get stuck in these conversations with "gun fondlers" about how they are armed to the teeth for the day that "they come to get my (fill in the blank)".
So I have started asking the question, "O.K. so you let loose a shower of bullets and defend your stuff the day after "IT" happens and now the next morning you have 24 dead bodies laying in your front and back yard; what are you going to do with all of the bodies?
They always go into this surprised blank state after hearing that question!
Next: O.K. You shot and killed the 24 people and sucsessfully defended your stuff when "IT" happens. What if "IT" blows over in a day or two like most social unrest does? Who do you want for your cell mate for the rest of your life; Bruno, or LeeRoy?
I have 6 guns and I use all of them. But I really think that the gun fondlers take their cue from movies where the gun settles the dispute and the winner rides off into the sunset, no questions asked.
My conclusion is right on that point: Eliminateing gun violence begins with violent movies and video games. Also more focus on mental health care.
By the way, Sparkplug used a knife. Do you want to ban knives? Baseball bats? Tire irons? Pillows? Cliffs? Thats it; lets ban all cliffs.

g and Gearhead, what I'm saying is more guns doesn't make anyone any safer. I've been in places like Brooklyn and Harlem in the 80's, Newark, Camden. I used to work in a ghetto and I have never been in a situation where a gun would have been a benefit. Next, using a gun to defend your property, insurance is easier and cheaper. More guns make the world a more dangerous place.

Canadians watch the same movies and play the same video games as Americans, how come they don't have a problem. Japan is into ultra violent entertainment, where is their gun problem?

I avoid the woods during hunting season mostly because of all the legal gun owners. We all know they never shoot anyone, don't we...

Now most hunters are pussies. I remember Lars Larson bragging about getting his elk at 1,000 yards last year. That's nearly 3/4 of a mile and that's a sniper, not a hunter. Where is the fairness. A real hunter would have bagged the animal with a bow at 100 feet.

As for a knife, do you think the victims would have survived had he used a gun?

I had guns, and plenty of them and I gave them all away and I haven't looked back. Having them put me in more danger than not having them.

As for what the 2nd amendment allows, are citizens allowed to have bazookas and automatic weapons? Why not? The NRA should be fighting for those as well since is the amendment says we should have it. It's time to amend the second amendment.

American needs to get over their paranoia. Most criminals don't want all the used crap you have in your house. The biggest reason for someone to break into your house to rob you is if they know you have cash, drugs jewelry or guns. Those things are the only things of value to criminals. They don't want your TV unless they rented a U-Haul for their get-away car. They don't want your record or book collection, or your Lazy-Boy or your food processor and they don't want your art. They want cash, drugs, jewelry and guns.

Personally I don't worry about the government, I pay my taxes and I get services in return. Give and take and it works just fine for me. The only ones who get upset are greedy. As for Hamilton and the Federalist papers. Hamilton was considered the Sarah Palin of the 1700s.

It's working well in England, and dude, you need to relax and let go of the greed. Get good insurance. If you don't like the government have a shoot out with them in the compound. You can call them and they'll come right over and if you win you get to run the country the way you want.

And which ultra-liberal goofball came up with the kockamame idea that hunting is supposed to be a "fair fight"??
Is it a fair fight when you open up your wallet and buy a pound of hamburger? Hmmmmmm?
Next time you go to slaughter chickens here's the rules:
Put away the hatchet, put away the machete and get down on your hands and knees and settle your need for meat with a pecking match.
In a peking match, those chickens will KICK YOUR ASS!!
Hugs & Kisses!
:-D

I'm not opposed to hunting or varmint shooting, but shooting things at 1000 yards... where is the sport in that. What's next, an aerial drone?

As for chickens, I wish you had met my rooster, Blue. I could never win a fight with him. Good thing a dog took him out. I've killed chickens and it is never a pleasant thing. I have great reverence for the animals I've had to kill, be it for food or to put them out of their misery. But you'll never see me bragging about killing or posing for a photo with a big smile on my face holding up something that just lost its life.

Whew. I'm glad I didn't get into the middle of that.

Yes, I'm a chicken.
I admit it.

;-D
(also, I'm kinda bummed to find out nobody wants to steal my coffee pot, extensive cheap wine collection, or my janky vacuum.)

Amy, I don't know, but I subscribe to blogs with FeedDemon.

Awesome comments eh? That's right you live in Texas...

I may come down if you have some good cookies to steal...

I always have cookies! :-D

(and by 'awesome', what I really mean is 'Oh, my.'. We all saw the Piers Morgan/Alex Jones fiasco, did we not? I told the hubs "ok, true...we don't own a gun, but I don't think I could even if I wanted to now because I don't want to be lumped in with that psychopath...")

Now I know you have cookies, I may come to Texas some day. I did see the Piers Morgan piece, and that guy was out there. Jon Stewart did a great job on the topic on Tuesday night. Also while I have you here I think the trouble you may be having being notified that I have a new post may be that you have an AOL e-mail address. Your comments go to my spam folder in Blogger and it's a good thing I have the comments emailed to me from Blogger otherwise I'd never see them. Are you blogging anymore because my RSS isn't getting any hits from you.

Gearhead, that what I was telling you about at the conference. Those are the pussies that want to overthrow the government. Nut bag conservatives. It's people like that that give guns a bad name.

True, true.
But some of them are "nut-bag" liberals as well.
And I mean that literally.
Extremists are extremists.
I hate 'em all!!
Why can't people just be normal like you and I? :-D
